alfajores
Imported from my now-retired blog, Argenteen, which was all about my family and my move to Argentina.
An alfajor [alfa'xɔɾ] is a cookie-like dessert that is very popular here in Argentina. Basically, an alfajor is two biscuit-like things with dulce de leche in the center (holding them together). Sometimes the alfajor is covered in black or white chocolate or a type of glaze. I personally love alfajores. Argentines love them too. Studies show that in 2004, Argentina’s 36 million inhabitants consumed a daily average of 6 million alfajores.(1) Yes, they’re that good.
